Ice-O-Matic® Announces Significant Multi-State Tree Donation

Colorado Company assists with recovery of forest habitat
(Denver, CO) – May 2010 – Ice-O-Matic®, a leading manufacturer of ice machines and dispensers for some of the globe’s largest convenience stores, quick service restaurants, and coffee shops, has announced two considerable tree donations in California and Montana.
The donations are part of Ice-O-Matic’s industry leading initiative, Green ReLeaf™, designed to help offset their carbon footprint and assist with the restoration of forest habitat in both locations.
In partnership with American Forests, Ice-O-Matic’s goal is to plant 150,000 trees around the globe over the duration of the program to help offset the carbon footprint of their factory and 15 similar type factories. This donation will reduce the carbon dioxide in our air by more than 7 million pounds annually.
In California, 3,669 trees were donated to the Grass Valley Fire Reforestation project by Ice-O-Matic in honor of Norm’s Refrigeration & Ice Equipment. The San Bernadino National Forest was devastated by the 2007 Slide and Grass Valley fires, as well as the 2003 Old and Grand Prix fires, so it is critical to re-establish these burn sites before they are overrun by brush species, making reforestation impossible. This is an essential reforestation site for both habitat and recreational purposes, as it contains a large number of unique ecological communities not found elsewhere.
In Montana, the 2002 Kraft Spring Fire burned over 65,500 acres of the Custer National Forest, land already scavenged by the 1988 Brewer Fire that affected 58,000 acres. In an effort to help reforest the 900 acres of Ponderosa pines, Ice-O-Matic donated 1,680 trees to this project. The planting sites are scattered over elevated plateaus that are dominated by the Ponderosa pine. The goal of these tree plantings is to recover large amounts of forest habitat for the local ecosystem.
